Every once in a while, curiosity gets the better of me.
The other day, I decided to run a little experiment — just for fun — to see what ChatGPT thought letterpress wedding invitations should cost. I gave it all the details: 50 invitation suites complete with RSVP and details cards, envelopes for each, 100% cotton paper, and everything sourced from Canadian suppliers.
I wanted to see how close its estimate would be to my actual pricing.
Spoiler: according to ChatGPT, I should be charging more.
Here’s what ChatGPT came up with after crunching the numbers (and I have to admit, it did its homework):
That brought the total material cost to roughly $375 – $470 CAD for 50 suites.
Then it factored in the hands-on time — mixing ink, trimming paper, setting up the press, printing each run, cleaning up, and packaging everything neatly. Based on that, it estimated a fair total of about $1,800 – $2,200 for 50 suites.
Which made me laugh… because my pricing is actually lower.
I didn’t run this experiment to second-guess myself or look for reasons to change my pricing. It was simply a playful way to see how a computer views the art of letterpress — and it turns out, even the algorithm thinks it’s worth every penny (maybe even a few more).
It was oddly validating, in a very 2025 kind of way.
Letterpress printing is a labour of love. It’s slow, intentional, and full of texture — and even ChatGPT recognizes the value behind it.
So, while I’m not raising my prices (don’t worry!), I did walk away smiling, knowing that my couples are getting a lot of craftsmanship and heart in every suite.
And somewhere out there, a friendly robot agrees. 🇨🇦🤖
